School of Hospitality, Tourism & Events (SHTE) hosted its virtual Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) on 26th November 2020 with 15 IAP members representing the Hospitality, Tourism and Events industry. Prof. Dr. Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan, Executive Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Leisure Management made a welcome address and presented the certificates of Appointments to the IAP members. The session discussed on the key areas and future plans for the School's curriculum. A note of thanks to all IAP members who took time off their busy schedules to portray their responsible role in shaping our students and their future in the industry.

The 3rd Culinology® Webinar series entitled “Bioactive Compounds of Spices: Flavor Innovation on Demand” was successfully organized under the School of Food Studies and Gastronomy (SFSG). We were honored to have distinguished speakers Dr. Zuraidah Nasution, Nutrition Expert & Lecturer from Institute Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University, Indonesia and Mr. Michael Yap Kim Wah, Founder of Green House Ingredient Sdn. Bhd. who shared with us the scientific knowledge of herbs & spices and potentials of these flavor compounds in creating profitable products for the food industry. This webinar was attended by over 350 participants, including international delegates, food operators, professionals, Taylor’s University staff and students. Overall feedback from the attendees indicated that the webinar was informative and insightful.
An inspiring story about passion for conservation was shared by Mr. Justin Juhun from Conservation Center of Gaya Island Resort under YTL Hotels and Mr. Aris from Pangkor Laut Resort. Mr. Justin Juhun, a Resident Naturalist, shared his passion for conservation tourism with students of Diploma in Hotel Management.
The session highlighted the importance and relevance of incorporating ecotourism through conservation efforts by the hospitality industry, as this is much appreciated by a growing number of guests who share the same value. This inspiring story gave a new perspective to future hoteliers who wish to pursue this journey of preserving the environment through hospitality.
